POSTCARDS FROM THE STUDIO "I painted the Flamenco Sketches while listening to the jazz recordings of the same name by the ground-breaking Miles Davis sextet, with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. They laid down notes of transcendent beauty. When I listen to the saxophone's melody it sounds to me like pure love. I tried to create that sense of luminosity, of the various parts working together to find the essence of musical color, space and rhythm. Flamenco Sketches still sounds fresh today. It is full of surprise and tenderness, the solitude of creativity and the community of collaboration. It feeds my spirit." Embrace Beauty, KNight |
