POSTCARDS FROM THE STUDIO "Years ago, my husband and I spent some early summer weeks traveling Europe on the trains. To this day it remains the best education I can recommend. We found ourselves on the Mediterranean Coast one cold rainy spring day. We had just emerged from the low doorway and intimate spaces of Picasso's preserved studio in Antibes and were looking down at the boats bobbing in the marina when the sky broke. How to find shelter when fiscal prudence said we had no claim to it? We ducked into one of those great French grocers filled with the fresh, warm aromas of earthy cheeses and sweet baguettes. We added citrus and wine to the first two ingredients and made a wet dash for the train station. We spent a wonderful afternoon riding back and forth along the coast from Antibes to Monte Carlo enjoying a cabernet, telling stories and pretending intrigue, laughing and admiring the rise of cliffs and towns above that amazing saturated turquoise and ultramarine. When the sky returned to brilliant cerulean, we tumbled off the train warm and fed and dry. Ready for the next adventure in that Mediterranean light. These paintings give you the chance to embrace something new." Embrace Beauty, KNight |
